a sanitary ceramic manufacturer in Porto, Portugal carried out magnetic separation renovation on glaze production lines. Imported kaolin and feldspar slurry contains ultra-fine magnetic iron oxide, which forms dense pits on toilet and basin glaze after firing. The yield of high-end sanitary ware for export only reached 73%.

Self-cleaning rotary grate magnets were installed at ball mill outlets to stir high-viscosity glaze dynamically and prevent powder accumulation covering magnetic rods. Wet high-gradient slurry electromagnetic separators were connected in series before glazing to adsorb ultra-fine weak magnetic impurities of 0.3–8μm. The equipment is equipped with an automatic backwashing system to support 24-hour uninterrupted circulating slurry production.

After transformation, the iron content of glaze slurry dropped from 0.42% to 0.06%, and glaze pitting defects were reduced by 93%. Export orders of high-end ceramic products increased by 45% year-on-year. The factory plans to adopt this two-stage magnetic purification scheme for all Phase III expansion production lines.
